The price of oil per barrel today is very high when compared to
previous years. It is causing a great strain on millions of people
every day and there is no end in sight yet.
Not many people enjoy seeing the ever changing gas prices that
frequent gas stations across the nation. One day they will be somewhat
reasonable, or at least a price that people have grown used to. The
next day, they will have gone up several cents, causing anger and
frustration all over again. It has been this way for years now, and it
seems that it will only get progressively higher. At different times,
political leaders have tried to find different ways to offer some
relief of the high prices, but it is only temporary. In fact, the only
way to avoid the high gas prices is to avoid buying gasoline. In the
society of today, always on the go, that is almost impossible,
especially for those in rural areas where public transportation is not
readily available.
The average price of oil per barrel today, in 2010, is $69.85. But
that is only an average. Pick a specific date from 2010, such as March
30, and the price is actually $82.28. Compared to a price of $17.81 in
1946, that is a dramatic increase. That figure is adjusted for
inflation, as the exact average price for that year, with that cost of
living, was $1.63. Either way a person looks at it, the price of oil
has become a burden that anyone who owns a vehicle has to live
with. Even with all of the new economical and hybrid cars that are on
the market, people still have trouble affording to buy gasoline. After
all, if a person can barely afford gasoline, how can they afford a
brand new car?
It is comparable to a never ending circle. The price of oil
rises. This makes the cost of gasoline start to rise. People spend
less on gas by avoiding unnecessary trips. The price dips a little
bit. More gasoline gets purchased. The price increases. And so the
cycle continues. There is no answer available yet to make these rising
prices less painful to the wallet. Short of not driving at all, people
really have no choice but to pay the price at the pumps and cut costs
in some other area of their life and budget.
