Price Per Barrel Of Oil

The rising price per barrel of oil has been a cause for concern for everyone in the world. Economical vehicles are almost the only way to ensure getting the most out of a dollar at the gas pump.

Oil prices over the years have been slowly but steadily rising. They have fluctuated here and there, but ultimately, the price continues to rise. Oil has been the topic of many debates and discussions. People are always trying to get their elected officials to provide some sort of relief from the pain at that gas pump. People are changing their driving habits, their vacation plans, and many other activities that would involve non essential driving. Buying gas, once not considered to be an issue, is now the topic of many every day discussions, from dinner tables to board rooms across the nation and the world.

The price per barrel of oil has been on the rise for decades. In 1946, the adjusted for inflation price of a barrel of oil was $17.81. So far, in 2010, the price per barrel is $69.85. That is a huge and drastic increase. The highest adjusted for inflation price was in 1980, at a soaring $98.52. But the highest nominal price, which means the actual price per barrel during a given year, was in 2008. The price per barrel of oil that year was $91.48. The adjusted price was $91.77. It is plain to see just from these few prices that oil is becoming a precious resource and one that is increasing in price.

Everyone knows what it is like to fill up their gas tank and pay well over fifty or sixty dollars. The increase in the price of oil and therefore, the price of gasoline, has made consumers more aware of the types of vehicles that they drive. Big, gas guzzling sport utility vehicles and trucks are no longer the normal choice of vehicle, simply because the gas prices are so high and it is almost a waste of gasoline to drive such a big vehicle unless it is necessary. Economical cars are saturating the market. Hybrid vehicles are also making a big dent in the automobile industry. Saving gas and saving the environment are becoming an every day part of life for citizens across the world, especially in the United States of America.
